How
do I register a domain name? (www.yourname.com)
You can use any one of numerous registrars to
register your domain. The yearly cost to register
your domain thru FEN is $20 and is renewable up
to a maximum of ten years at a time. If you would
like, we can register or transfer your domain
name for you, just fill out this form,
and we would be more than happy to do that for
you. Please be sure to indicate if this is a NEW
domain or a TRANSFER of an existing domain. If
you prefer to handle this yourself, the DNS information
you will need to provide your registrar is:
Primary: NS1.fament.com - 65.173.196.10
Secondary: NS2.fament.com - 65.173.196.11

How long will it take before
I can "see" my website?
When a domain name is placed on our servers it
takes a certain amount of time for the internet
to accept and refresh all the new domain name
changes which have taken place. When these changes
have been accepted the account will be fully accessible.
This is known as propagation. The propagation
times are as follows:
For new domains: Once you receive notification
that the registration authority has registered
your domain name it can take up to 72 hours
for the changes to propagate across the internet.
The reason that it takes this long is because
the system by which domain name lookup works
is hierarchical, and the caches on the servers
must time-out before they request new information
for a domain.
For domain transfers: We will send a request
to the registrar that currently holds your domain
name to initiate the process to transfer your
domain name to our servers. We recommend that
you NOT cancel your service where your domain
name currently resides until all transfers are
complete and the domain name servers are fully
updated. This will prevent loss of access to
both your website and your e-mail. The acknowledgement
for the approval of the transfer MUST come from
the same e-mail address that is on file with
your current registrar. If this information
is no longer valid, other steps will need to
be taken in order to initiate the transfer.
Once the transfer is approved and acknowledged,
which can take 3 to 7 business days, it can
take up to 72 hours for all of the domain servers
to update their DNS information.
Can I use CGI Scripting?
Either you can ask to use FEN's cgi-script library
and we will set it up so you have access to it,
or you can ask to get your own cgi-script directory.
Neither is setup by default. If you want to do
your own cgi script you have access to perl on
the NT server and if you need the path to perl
it's e:/perl/bin/perl.exe or if you need complete
path to your domain directory it's e:/domains/DOMAIN-NAME
(note that domain-name includes .com .org or .net;
it does NOT include the www.)
How do I maintain my
e-mail accounts?
You can access your e-mail administrative tools
at http://mail.DOMAIN-NAME.
Log in using your correct e-mail address and password
for your new domain. From here you can add, delete
and otherwise adminster e-mails for your domain.
There is an extensive on-line help file, or if
you have any other problems or questions, e-mail
or call us.
What settings do I
use to transfer files or check my mail?
Your account details are as follows:
FTP: ftp.DOMAIN-NAME
POP3: mail.DOMAIN-NAME
SMTP: mail.DOMAIN-NAME
WEB: http://www.DOMAIN-NAME
For more detailed information about transferring
files to our server, see our section on uploading
files
Remember that your user-name and password are
your responsibility, please keep them safe and
don't share them with anyone!
